The Director of Operations is responsible for identifying and implementing value creation strategies within the Ops group and across the various disciplines that are part of the Operations activities within the company. The Ops Group includes Supply Chain Master Planning, Purchasing, Solutions Brewing, Testing, and Autoclaving, Production, Engineering and Mechanical Maintenance, Quality Control and Document Control activities, Warehouse functions for Shipping/Receiving, and the Customer Service team.
The Director will work closely with all Operations Department Managers to assure that all teams are functioning smoothly, are staffed/trained correctly, and that there is clear communication between each respective group within the Department. Goals must be defined and embraced by all groups within the Ops Department. This includes short range plans and long-term goals for the Department and the company. Oversight of the Managers and the activities of each of these groups, with a constant vision toward continuous process improvement, will enable the continued growth of the business, both purposefully and sustainably.
The Director of Operations will manage the anticipated continued organic growth within the business and to assume responsibility for the Operations of new acquisitions that will be made in the coming years. This will include determining the optimum locations and space requirements for new operations departments within the acquired companies, staffing requirements, cross-department interactions, and perhaps most importantly, identifying synergies within the companies to affect cost savings and improve productivity.
The Director of Operations will also interact with other Departments such as Sales to assure that the Operations Department’s activities are consistently in sync with the overall company goals and can fulfill the customer demand for internal products.
|Description of Essential Job Functions|
|Successfully lead and supervise the Managers of all manufacturing operations and functions to include planning, purchasing, manufacturing, engineering/equipment maintenance and facilities, shipping, receiving, inventory control, quality and documentation functions.|
|Lead Managers to consistently focus on continuous improvement. This will include monitoring and analyzing performance data (including order fulfillment, machine capacities and output, budget variances, schedule attainment, inventory turns, pricing of raw materials, etc.) to identify business plan variances using established MRP data, established in-house systems and ad-hoc problem solving.|
|Create action plans to respond to data analysis and improve/support existing systems.|
|Collaboration with the COO and respective Managers on the accurate preparation of appropriate annual capital and expense budgets. Must be able to monitor and ensure compliance of approved annual budgets.|
|Responsible for company growth trajectory and profit plan expectations. Must develop and maintain innovative and effective cost reduction programs wherever possible.|
|Provide oversight of the various Ops Managers and act as a mentor to all. This includes review of the personnel requirements and the performance of their respective staff. Regular weekly meetings will provide opportunities to analyze any need for additional personnel support, review of training requirements/documentation, communication of expectations, and/or address disciplinary issues.|
|Ensures compliance with and/or follows all organizational systems, programs, training, policies, and procedures as required and complies with relevant legal mandates. Seeks guidance as necessary.|
|Actively supports and participates in the safety program, both for self-protection and the protection of other employees, by reading and abiding by all requirements in the Safety Manual and Injury Illness Prevention Program (IIPP).|
|Carries out all responsibilities in an honest, ethical and professional manner.|
|Must be able to fulfill essential job function in a consistent state of alertness and safe manner.|
|Handles various other duties as delegated by the COO.|
In accordance with applicable policies/procedures and Federal/State laws, may perform the following supervisory responsibilities: Interviewing, hiring orienting and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; coaching and appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; enforcing all safety rules and ensuring safe work procedures.
