TITLE: Litigation Support Analyst

Must Be: US Citizen or Green Card

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Performs consultation, advisory, arbitration, trial work and carries out the legal processes necessary to affect the rights, privileges and obligations of the client.

Works directly with and represents plaintiffs or defendants to bring or pursue a lawsuit to be tried in court of justice for the purpose of enforcing a right when settlement negotiation and arbitration efforts fail.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Self-starter, able to work unsupervised for extended periods
• Ability to work in isolation, while coordinating actions within various department of the organization to achieve needed responses.
• Strong mechanical aptitude
• Good organizational skills
• Computer literate – Word, Excel, Microsoft Office
• Good negotiating skills
• Good sound sense and sound judgement in practical matters

JOB RELATIONSHIPS:

Communication/Interface:

• Utmost importance for this position must be in regular communication with multiple groups for each active case.  Including defense counsel, Company’s insurance agency and insurance carries, not to mention their direct Supervisor or Manager.

DECISION-MAKING AND PROBLEM-SOLVING:

• The candidate for this position will have a certain dollar level settlement authority decided by the Office of the President (OOP).  As settlements are negotiated between parties, good negotiating skills go hand in hand with doing the best job for our client, which is the ultimate goal.
• This position chooses the defense counsel/firm we enjoin to defend the Company in each case.  Liability insurance carriers can provide recommended law firms and/or attorneys in most cases and will make recommendations upon request.  It is a good practice to rely on their recommendation, however; good experience with individual attorneys from past cases is often relied upon and can prevail over a carrier’s suggestion.

Skills Demonstrated By:

1. Document review:  While not all legal documents received require a thorough read, many do and understanding the legal terms used and being able to decipher claims made against the Company and Co-Defendant as valid or questionable, sharing knowledge with legal defense if of the utmost importance.
2. All billings in a defense case must be reviewed, challenged if needed, approved and forwarded to Accounting for processing and payment.
3. Good file keeping practices are necessary, as the accumulation, sorting and storage of documents and information responsive to case demands can be exhaustive and cumbersome if not handled properly throughout the life of the case.
