4-17-24 UPDATE – This is on hold. Even though we staffed this role in our client Tokio Marine, in their Los Angeles, CA office last year, we have been struggling for the Encino, CA office, so they might go with a retained search firm.

POSITION OVERVIEW

We are really looking for a candidate who has hands-on experience as an HR Generalist and HR Business Partner. Not somebody who is taking a step back in their career…..and even though recruiting experience is helpful, our client is not looking for recruiters, sorry.

As a Human Resources Business Partner, you will drive the business partnership, delivering thoughtful HR advisement, and employee engagement experiences.

Closely partner with the Human Resources team and HR Director to support the company’s insurance group. division. You will reinforce the practice of human resource programs and policies analyze compensation reviews, support employee relations and ensuring compliance with federal/state employment regulations for the headquarters office in Encino, CA, and regional offices across North America.

• Somebody who personally handles full-cycle Employee Relations investigations – not taking notes and handing ER Issues off to HR Consultant or Legal to handle.
• This role requires partnering with the business and thinking strategically and assessing the impact on the business.
• Analysis and gather reports.

Key Responsibilities

In this hands-on role as Senior HR Generalist, you will work closely with the Human Resources team to support the insurance group, implement human resource programs and policies including curating a talent pipeline and nurturing talent development, analyzing compensation reviews, supporting employee relations, implementing training, and ensuring compliance with federal/state employment regulations for the headquarters office in Encino, CA and regional offices across North America.

Our service delivery model is an HR Business Partner and HR Senior Generalist working closely with Corporate Centers of Expertise.

What we are looking for:

• Sr. level HR Generalist or HRBP
• Proven experience in HRG role, specifically tactical duties but strategic ideas/ implementation’
• Experience working with large teams >200 employees and multiple levels
• Hotel experience, insurance companies, restaurants industry
• This is an individual contributor role, but has experience working of course in a team setting
• Experience being hands-on doing the task themselves
• Great presentation skills
• Professionalism to work with diverse personalities at the executive level (CEO, VPs, etc.) as well as everybody else in the company. The focus customers will be management and above.
• Positive/pleasant/even-keel personality & attitude, without being overly bubbly
• Not afraid to be assertive (and aggressive) as needed
• Ability to handle tough employee situations
• Proactive when it comes to taking care of responsibilities and researching if needed

Ideally:

Employee Relations:

• Establish strong working relationships with managers and employees at all offices.
• Demonstrate a professional and high touch approach to issues and areas of concern responding promptly, and with guidance of the HR Director.
• Conduct employee investigations when necessary and escalate at appropriate, partnering with HR leadership, legal and business leaders.

Performance Management:

• Partner with the HR Director, and business managers to establish opportunities for training, goal setting, and objectives.
• Facilitate the performance review process, guiding managers on performance improvement, and professional development plans.

HR Advisement:

• Respond to inquiries regarding policies, procedures, and programs.
• Identify proactive opportunities to disseminate HR best practices with clients.

Employee Development:

• Partner with managers, the HR Director, and Corporate HR-Learning and Development to identify development opportunities and training programs ensuring growth opportunities for employees.

HR Compliance and Reporting:

• Develop and distribute reports for HR projects or functions using the selected tools for HR reporting with consistency and accuracy.
• Conduct exit interviews and perform analysis to determine trends in attrition.

Employee Engagement:

• Support and facilitate exceptional employee experiences with onboarding and orientation of new hire

Timeline

• During the first 30 days: Gain an understand of the company business, HR policies and procedures including Employee Handbook, business policies, and internal practices. Demonstrate urgency and understanding of organizational structures.
• During the first 90 days: Ability to identify and support basic Employee Relations issues independently. Facilitate conversations and concerns with senior leadership team. Add value through ad hoc support where needed in HR Directors or other team members absence.
• During the first 180 days and beyond: Demonstrate ability to identify business problems and trends. Co-lead Performance Management and refresher sessions about other HR topics throughout the year with HR Director.  Lead all basic employee relations, and support HR Director on all complex ER circumstances. Lead HR Initiatives independently providing full relief to the HR department.

Skills Experience and Education Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in business, HR or related field.
  • Preferred: SPHR/PHR/SHRM-SCP/SHRM-CP
• 5+ years of relevant and progressive experience as a Generalist and/or BP with a focus on employee relations, investigations, understanding EEO laws and conflict resolution, HR fundamentals.
• Strong understanding of state and federal laws including depth in CA employment law.
• Experience in an enterprise environment supporting a large employee population.
• Exceptional business acumen, including experience with diverse populations and all levels of leadership.
• Strong time management skills and well-practiced at delivering on competing priorities, follow through, and execution.
• Ability to manage expectations, communicate effectively and own your area of expertise, bringing significant ROI to the role.
• Insurance / Financial Services industry experience, a plus
• Workday implementation and experience, a plus
