SALARY: $190K to $210K DOE

HIERARCHY/ REPORTS TO:  Chief Technology Offices

JOB OVERVIEW

The Vice President, Engineering will oversee/manage the software teams, mentor junior engineers, participate in the general business operation of the company locally in the United States, as well as in India and UK.

This is a very hands-on, in the weeds role, reporting directly to the CTO. The Vice President of Engineering roll is a key member of the company’s senior leadership team and responsible for leading platform and application development for the Company’s key software product lines.

Somebody with Start-Up experience is ideal.

The VP of Engineering must have/ be:

• a proven track record of successful product delivery of enterprise software and have a reputation for driving change, delivering results, and mentoring team members.
• an innovative, hands-on leader who has experience in technologies and can lead all engineering software efforts.
• accountable for the stability and scalability of our product platforms.
• responsible for the full development lifecycle through application and platform engineering, design, and quality assurance.
• hands-on as this will be critical to success in this position.
• capable of growing, developing and managing a high-performance software development division with open communications and transparency.
• the right balance between strategic and get-it-done with a critical eye towards ensuring the product lines are reaching milestones.

RESPONSIBILIITES

• Serve as a key member of the leadership team, reporting to the CTO
• Lead, manage, and coach a team of engineers across front-end, back-end, QA and mobile platforms.
• Provides guidance to the Devops team for deployment of all product line applications in dev and production environments.
• Plan the architecture and technology roadmap for the entire site, clearly communicating it out to both the engineering team and to non-technical members of the leadership team
• Research and evolve the product, utilizing the latest and greatest social and payments experiences; educate the team on best practices for testing, deploying, and developing code.
• Encourage and enforce the right behaviors to ensure release schedules without compromising production stability.
• Collaborate with the product team and key company stakeholders, helping them decompose their projects into concrete units of work for the development team
• Manage daily scrums and the weekly agile processes, ensuring continuous delivery against a planned release schedule
• Forecast budgets and build release timelines for future initiatives
• Work across Software Engineering to build relationships with other teams. Use their feedback and understand their goals to build and prioritize a roadmap
• Collaborate with the CTO to define the platform pieces required to organize information at scale
• Drive the right technology choices (e.g. languages, libraries, frameworks) with guidance from the CTO on latest / scalable technologies.
• Take appropriate risks for technical debt and define a clear strategy for paying it down
• Recruit A+ talent and lead hiring efforts for the team, with a focus on scaling capacity and improving speed, quality, and efficiency over time
• Mentor and guide the professional and technical development of your team members. Help develop their careers and assign them to projects tailored to their skill levels, personalities, work styles, and professional goals.
• Ensure that the team understands the “why” behind the Company’s software and product goals, and are inspired to realize the company’s vision
• Hands-on experience in creating monitoring and debugging scripts in Shell/ Perl
• Hands-on designing the complex architecture with the individual team members in their corresponding platform and communicating with the CTO on architecture collaborations
• Personally responsible for the complete infrastructure / platform which is the backbone the Company’s Reservation System

Required Professional Experience and Skills

• Accomplished software development executive with 15+ years of technical experience along with 10+ years of staff management experience; Masters in Computer Science or related field
• Entrepreneurial and comfortable in a fast-moving, results-driven environment that includes a background in both small and large engineering development organizations.
• Successful track record of defining and executing strategic and innovative development projects that have had a major impact on company and market share performance.
• Excellent leadership abilities along with proven success in building, growing and managing a highly talented and motivated organization.
• Capable of assembling and leading a domestic/international distributed Organization
• Well versed in negotiations and partnerships with internal and external technology companies
• Ability to lead cross-functional teams to deliver multiple product lines
• Experienced and strong supporter of the agile methodology of software development.
