Leverage these tips for your resume
- Top of Resume
- Never put your full address for security purposes.
- Only put Name, City, State, Zip, Linked In, Email and Phone #.
- If you are willing to relocate, state so and where.
- Summary and/or Objective
- Always change your Summary and/or Objective at the top of the resume to be applicable to the specific requirements of job you are applying to.
- You have just seconds to grab the attention of the person or systems scanning your resume.
- Use some of their verbiage if it makes sense.
- Use quantifiable years of experience with certain skill sets, industries, etc.
- Mention any acknowledgments, cost savings and future education.
- Assume there are 100’s of people applying for the same roles
- Make yourself stand out.
- Summarize your years of applicable skills, industry experience, and goals specific to the actual job requirements you are applying for.
- Pay attention to Must Have and Preferred requirements and address those.
- Show accomplishments; a summary of years of experience and industries, money saved at a company.
- Indicate your technology experience applicable to the job you are applying to.
- Number of pages
- 2 pages is standard.
- No more than 4 if you are an executive with many years of experience. Show you can present information at a high-level and offer more details if requested.
- You can offer a more detailed, extensive resume.
- Personal Info
- Include hobbies and volunteer work at the bottom. They can show your diversity and especially if you are applying for tech roles and play with tech at home, managers love that.
- Gives an opportunity for personal conversation if the interviewer has similar interests.
- Automatic Tracking Systems
- We advise to not put photos or too many graphics on a resume as they can skew the scanning ability of resume for many ATS systems.
